National Library Talk 2008

Over 250 members of the public, including the Photography Society of Singapore, sat enraptured by Darren as he shared his experiences as the world’s best F1 photographer on the race tracks around the world. The audience was given valuable tip and tools for high-speed photography. The event was organised by National Library Board and held at its prestigious POD on the topmost floor of the building overlooking the SG GP Night Race track. Click here for photo gallery.

This glossy magazine on all things photographic published 10 pages of Darren’s award winning photographs on the F1 tracks around the world. This is the first time Singaporeans were given a visual treat of the world of Formula One’s celebrity drivers, high-speed cars and scenes in the world’s most glamorous sport. We were honoured to have Hardwarezone’s Photovideoi magazine feature Darren on the cover of its September issue as well as his National Library talk in the November issue. That makes it a total of 14 pages of glossy editorial for its 50,000 readers!

He returned again to the couch to speak again post-race and showed for the first time, the images of the inaugural 2008 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX held in Singapore on September 28, 2008.

Darren had a breezy chat with Melanie on high-speed photography tips as well as his expectations and excitement to shoot the world’s first F1 night race in Singapore. Despite working on European time, the jet-lagged celebrated photographer entertained Singapore radio listeners in his usual warm and friendly style on September 22, 2008.

Crystal Chan dropped by our National Library event to catch an exclusive on Darren before his talk. Darren shared details when he made McLaren fume by exposing their secret second brake which gave the team an edge. As soon as the photo was published in 1997 F1 Racing magazine, the rest of the teams copied it and fitted second brakes as well. It was banned the next year from the FIA rules. Darren meanwhile went on to make history with his photographic talents. The New Paper gave this story a full page on September 25, 2008.

This glossy magazine covered all the news and happenings of the 2008 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX. Its main feature and lead in covered the story of Darren with a 4-page spread written by New Zealander, Mark Henderson. The magazine also covered a number of information on the Formula One making it a suitable souvenir for Singapore’s first night race.
